Biography

Dr. Duber is an Associate Professor and Head of the Section of Population Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine.  He holds adjunct appointments in the Departments of Health Metrics and Global Health, and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Dr. Duber also co-directs the service learning program for the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Duber’s research focuses on evaluating health systems and health programs, with a particular interest in vulnerable and underserved populations domestically and internationally. Dr. Duber has worked clinically, served in public health roles, and conducted research in numerous countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He is currently the PI or co-PI on several ongoing studies, including: a cross-country assessment of the Global Fund business model; an evaluation of a novel system of care for STEMI patients in India and China sponsored by the Medtronic Foundation; assessment of a chatbot technology to screen ED patients for social determinants of health; and a randomized control trial examining different modalities of treatment for ED patients with opioid use disorder. He sits on American College of Emergency Physicians’ Public Health and Injury Prevention Committee and leads a number of local initiatives focused on underserved patients and communities.
