Biography

Dr. Ruter is a board-certified emergency medicine physician. He cares for patients in the emergency departments at Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center—Montlake Campus. He is passionate about caring for a diverse population of patients, regardless of access to care. He models in his clinical practice the same mission — exceptional care, without exception — of the institution where he trained.

As a clinical faculty member, Dr. Ruter is dedicated to educating medical students and residents in the practice of emergency medicine. He also serves on the Department of Emergency Medicine’s Quality Review Committee.

Dr. Ruter completed his undergraduate and postbaccalaureate premedical studies at Amherst College and Columbia University, respectively. He received his MD from Brown University’s Alpert Medical School in 2007. In 2011, after completing his residency training in emergency medicine at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Ruter joined the faculty at UW Medicine. In addition to prioritizing  spending time with family, Dr. Ruter enjoys running, rowing, and playing golf.
