Dr. Strote & Dr. Harper

Dr. Jared Strote and Dr. Rachel Harper published "Use of Emergency Medical Services by Police" in Prehospital Emergency Care.

This is a descriptive study examining requests for EMS assistance by police in a single system of EMS and police. Of police-citizen interactions, 2.2% included a request for EMS presence, with 61.2% resulting in transportation to the hospital. Of those 5.6% were transported via fire department-based advanced life support (ALS) unit.

These authors suggest that there may be opportunities for additional training and protocol development in order to deploy EMS resources more efficiently.
