The Lancet Countdown is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration, dedicated to monitoring the evolving health profile of climate change, and providing an independent assessment of the delivery of commitments made by governments worldwide under the Paris Agreement. Dr. Jeremy Hess  co-authored  a report for the  2019 The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change:  “Ensuring that the health of a child born today is not defined by a changing climate”. Dr. Hess  is also the senior author of this year’s  companion brief, released alongside the global report. This brief  aims to highlight the key threats and opportunities climate change poses for health in the United States. The 2019 Lancet Countdown report had over 30 worldwise launch events. Dr. Hess was invited and presented at the event held in Washington D.C., this past November. Keynote speakers included 19th Surgeon General of the U.S., Dr. Vivek Murthy  and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, ranking member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.
