biography
Dr. Dorn's focus as an educator is on critical thinking and medical decision-making, and the importance of the accuracy of the information that informs those decisions. She has special interests in cross-cultural and communication issues in emergency care, as well as an understanding of the role of social factors impact on health. Current interests include the role Narrative Medicine plays in improving the narrative competency of providers and ameliorating their relationship with the basic humanity of the work.
She has worked in the Global Health arena in Bolivia, Guatemala, Haiti, and Syria, and founded the Seattle chapter of the Northwest Narrative Medicine Collective in association with colleagues at OHSU.
She serves as the Emergency Medicine editor for the UW interdepartmental information-sharing website OCCAM.
She has also a long interest in Quality Assurance and Patient Safety and has played an active role on the QI committees from the inception of her career at UCSF to the present.
