biography

Dr. Fiona Gallahue is a Professor at the UW in the Department of Emergency Medicine as a clinician-educator and the Program Director Emeritus. Dr. Gallahue established the University of Washington Emergency Medicine Residency Program which was accredited in 2011. She served as Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Washington (UW) from 2011 through 2023. She is the past President of the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD-EM). She was awarded the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2020 and the Michael P. Wainscott Program Director award from CORD-EM in 2023.

Dr. Gallahue is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed her residency and chief residency in emergency medicine at New York University/Bellevue Medical Center in 2001.

Dr. Gallahue’s research interests focus on various aspects of medical education including the creation of fair and equitable evaluations of residents and senior medical students in professionalism and communication skills. Her work has been published in Academic Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine Education and Training, Western Journal of Emergency Medicine, Journal of Emergency Medicine, American Journal of Cardiology, and American Journal of Medical Quality. She has one book,

“Emergency Care of the Abused” published by Cambridge University Press.
