UWashEMS Research Takes Top Award at WSMRF

WWAMI medical students Ryan Winchell, Allison Rollins, and Bart Grabman presented research from their Triple I Scholarship Requirements at this year’s Western Student and Resident Medical Research Forum (WSMRF). For the Triple I Scholarship Requirement, students—during the Summer term between their first and second years of medical school—conduct empirical research through original investigation directed toward a question in any field related to medicine. Ryan, Allison, and Bart chose to direct their research towards Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services; working with Drs. Michael Sayre, Catherine Counts, Nick Johnson, Mickey Eisenberg, and Andrew Latimer.

Allison and Bart both won awards for their presentations at WSMRF:

• Allison won the Student Subspecialty Award for Clinical Epidemiology & Health Disparities research for her presentation Encounters with Emergency Medical Services Prior to Fatal Overdose: An Opportunity to Intervene?
• Bart won the top award at WSMRF, Best Oral Abstract, for his presentation Variability of End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.
