biography
Dr. Tolbert is an emergency physician with a primary site of practice at Northwest Hospital. He entered medical school at Wayne State University, before pursuing a residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Illinois at Chicago. After working in the South Suburbs of Chicago as an emergency physician for the last 5 years, he joined UW in September 2019. Dr. Tolbert takes care of patients with all and any acute issues, drawing from his in-depth community experience.
He also has extensive experience in student affairs, having served as an Early Academic Outreach Program Assistant Director at University of California at San Diego (UCSD) prior to medical school during which he ran a vast array of programs that focused on working with students from diverse backgrounds and creating pathways for them to matriculate to one of the University of California Schools. As the Assistant Dean for Student Support at UW SOM, he is building rapport with students, and helping to create an environment where students can optimize their academic performance and become socially responsible future physicians.
I served active duty on board the USS Fort Mchenry LSD 43 in the United States Navy in the Gulf War. I also served on various other ships in the United States Navy Reserve prior to matriculating to medical school.
