S StuckyThe Department of Emergency Medicine is proud to announce that one of our Research Assistants, Sarah Stucky, has been selected for the prestigious 2023 Husky 100

This award recognizes 100 undergraduate and graduate students across all campuses and all areas of study who are making the most of their time at the University of Washington. Students are selected for their leadership, passion, and ability to connect what they learn in the classroom with opportunities to shape the future outside the classroom.

Sarah Stucky joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in February 2021 as a part-time research assistant, hired to work on the NIH K01 awarded project, Trauma Induced Coagulopathy Project with Dr. Alex St. John. Since joining, she has applied for and been granted two separate research scholarships for her work in the department.

“Being selected for the Husky 100 is a great recognition of the work I have been doing as an undergraduate,” said Sarah Stucky. “It was difficult to have a year of my college experience online, but I am proud that I was able to still accomplish a lot. It is an honor to be in such good company! The other students in the cohort are driven, accomplished, and have had amazing journeys while at UW.”

Dr. Alex St. John described Sarah as an invaluable team member in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

“She has assisted with multiple clinical trials and even begun to pursue her own lines of research in the area of platelet dysfunction after trauma,” said Dr. St. John. “This is a high honor, and we are proud to celebrate her achievements.”

Sarah will graduate this June and the Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to hiring her full-time for a gap year before she heads off to medical school. Sarah is described as a change-maker, who dove head-first into so many opportunities at the University of Washington and the Department of Emergency Medicine.

“I hope that I can get people excited about research and continue doing meaningful work at Harborview,” said Stucky. “I plan on pursuing a medical degree after I finish my undergrad at UW. I hope to someday have the skills and expertise to be a good physician and researcher. I have had such a great experience in the Harborview Emergency Department and feel well-prepared to continue in the field!”

Congratulations, Sarah!
