Eligibility and Application Process

The deadline to apply is September 15, 2023.

There are a wide variety of outstanding EM research fellowships, and we are honored by any EM trainee who considers our program as the next step in their professional development. Teaching and supervision of EM trainees are central to our fellowship experience. Because we have a 4-year residency program we only accept fellowship applications from graduates of United States-based 4-year programs or from graduates of 3-year programs who have at least 1 year of EM clinical work experience. All applicants must be ABEM board certified or board-eligible.

We approach the application process for our medical education fellowship in the same fashion as faculty appointments in our department. As a result, we will not be participating in shared offer dates for EM research fellowships. We may need to place time restrictions on any offer that we extend to applicants so as to potentially make offers to other candidates.

Applicants are asked to provide:

  1. A curriculum vitae with contact information for at least three references.

  2. A cover letter outlining your unique reasons for pursuing a Population Health Research Fellowship, as well as your long-term goals as an academic emergency physician and population health researcher.

  3. While not required for application, successful applicants must provide official transcripts of their USMLE scores prior to hire.

Please contact Dr. Jeremy Hess at jjhess@uw.edu to apply and for any questions regarding the fellowship.
