biography

While continuing her clinical work in Alaska, Jodie is excited to continue working with the University of Washington as the Assistant Fellowship Director for the Global Emergency Medicine and Rural Health Fellowship. Throughout her training, Jodie has maintained a focus on rural and remote medical care. After growing up in Sitka, Alaska, and undergraduate training at Northwestern University, she completed medical school at the University of Washington through the Alaska-WWAMI program. In medical school, she participated in the WWAMI Rural Integrated Training Experience where she spent six months working on the Wind River Indian Reservation and also completed the UWSoM Global Health Pathway with public health and medical rotations in Palau and Uganda.

Jodie completed her Emergency Medicine Residency through the University of Washington. During residency, she taught a focused obstetrical ultrasound course in Neno, Malawi, and completed a needs assessment for emergency services in St Marc, Haiti, both in conjunction with Partners In Health. She also completed the global health pathway, became a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, served as chief resident, and was awarded for outstanding dedication and commitment to education and training in ultrasound.

Between 2016-2018, Jodie served as a UW Global Emergency Medicine and Rural Health Fellow. Through this fellowship, she enjoyed the incredible opportunities to learn more about Alaska Native cultures and Alaska Native health care while working throughout the state within the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. During this time, she also continued teaching ultrasound in Liberia and Malawi through Partners In Health, earned her Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene through the Gorgas Course, and completed her Masters in Public Health through the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
