New study to look at advancing health predictions in a changing climate
As the world faces escalating climate challenges, understanding the future connection between climate change and population health is vital. A new project titled “Policy-relevant future scenarios of population health and health systems”, led by Professor Kristie L. Ebi from the Department of Global Health and co-investigator Dr. Jeremy Hess from the Department of Emergency Medicine, aims to bridge gaps in this research area.
This project will focus on helping researchers and policymakers make better predictions about health risks tied to climate change. The team is building on Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs), which are basically storylines about how the world might evolve in terms of economy, population, and technology.
By giving researchers better tools, this project will help us understand these risks more clearly and plan ahead. Policymakers will have the insights they need to craft strategies that protect communities and healthcare systems.
Sponsored by Wellcome, the project will span three years, from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
