We’re proud to share that two outstanding members of our Emergency Medicine department have been recognized with prestigious honors from Harborview Medical Center (HMC).

Dr. Michaela O’Driscoll (PGY-4) was selected as this year’s recipient of the HMC Housestaff Achievement Award for Clinical Ability and Humanitarian Concern. This award is presented annually to a resident who exemplifies the mission and philosophy of HMC by providing high-quality, patient-centered care with a deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

“Dr. O’Driscoll has truly done all of the things that Harborview was created to do," One nominator shared. "While she has taken amazing care of people who are vulnerable in several different ways, she has leaned in to taking care of those who struggle with substance abuse, poverty, and housing insecurity."

Additionally, Kris Hendershot, a Neurocritical Care fellow and incoming EM faculty member, has been named the inaugural winner of the HMC Clinical Educator of the Year – Top Educator Award. This newly established award celebrates the collaborative teaching and mentorship between advanced practice providers (APPs) and trainees. Unique in its design, APPs nominate residents or fellows who have played a key role in their learning, and vice versa.

One colleague shared, “Beyond his clinical teaching, Dr. Kris Hendershot is a strong advocate for APPs. He actively seeks opportunities to support their professional growth, particularly with procedural skills. Rather than performing the procedures himself, he prioritizes offering these opportunities to APPs, providing expert supervision and hands-on guidance that builds both competence and confidence."

Congratulations, Michaela and Kris!
