UW Emergency Medicine has been awarded the Emergency Department-INitiated bupreNOrphine and VAlidaTIOn Network Trial (ED-INNOVATION)

This study will evaluate implementation of emergency department (ED)-initiated BUP in a large number of sites (n=30); compare extended release (XR)-BUP with sublingual (SL) BUP in ED patients with untreated OUD; and develop and validate electronic health record phenotypes of opioid-related illnesses to characterize ED visits, enhance active disease surveillance, and better identify patients eligible for study inclusion.
