The University of Washington Emergency Medical Services section (UWashEMS) faculty, accompanied by students from the UW School of Medicine (SOM), made their presence known at this year’s annual meeting of the National Association of EMS Physicians in San Diego, California. In total, UWashEMS faculty and SOM students accounted for thirteen total presentations across several platforms: four main stage presentations, one oral abstract, six poster presentations, and two faculty taught during pre-conferences.

The annual NAEMSP meeting is the Emergency Medical Services (UWashEMS) section’s primary conference each year and we are unbelievably proud of all the work that went into researching and presenting each of these projects—especially how many projects were spearheaded by medical students interested in pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. UW Emergency Medicine continues to maintain devotion to and promotion of our mission: to provide high-quality patient care, medical education, and research. Our representation at NAEMSP 2020 is an irrefutable demonstration of our commitment to those core objectives.

Guided by these objectives, our students and faculty presented research on topics that included EMS Data Management, Women in EMS, Prehospital Intubation, Artificial Intelligence and EMS, and Cardiac Arrest Recognition by 911 Dispatchers. Additionally, Dr. Catherine Counts and Dr. Andrew McCoy taught during pre-conferences about EMS Quality Improvement and Safety, and, Airway Management, respectively (See below for full list of presentations).

The Emergency Medical Services section at UWashEM is passionate about supporting medical students, residents, and faculty in their education and research as they continue to push the boundaries of EMS and resuscitation science.
