Dr. Jenelle Badulak, along with Dr. Zachary Shinar from Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA, has published a book titled "ECPR and Resuscitative ECMO: A Detailed Look at Emergent Extracorporeal Life Support." A crucial tool in critical care situations, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, has gained noteriety during the COVID-19 pandemic because it is a useful tool for treating COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Dr. Badulak has been a leading force in the Department of Emergency Medicine when it comes to ECMO and extracorporeal life support. Dr. Badulak works with the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) on the ECMOed Taskforce contributing to development of an international standardized ECMO curriculum. She also serves as the Director of ECMO Education for the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Centers.

Dr. Badulak has developed the ECMO curriculum for physicians and advanced practice providers through creation of an online didactic curriculum and in-person simulation training. She has also partnered with Airlift Northwest to create the UW ECMO Retrieval Team. She is passionate about learning and teaching optimal use of ECMO to care for the most critically ill patients in our region.
