Research Showcase

This year's University of Washington Department of Emergency Medicine Annual Research Showcase featured groundbreaking research from faculty, residents, and medical students. Research topics ranged from wildfire impacts on mental health, pediatric non-prescription fentanyl exposures, and HIV care among refugees in Uganda.

More than fifty faculty members, staff, and residents met in the Husky Union Building to listen to several presenters discuss their research. The day ended with awarding one person from each category for their research.

The Department of Emergency Medicine was also happy to host Dr. Eugenia C. South. She shared more about her incredible journey and career. Dr. South is the Faculty Director for the Penn Urban Health Lab, where she focuses on racial, environmental, and economic justice for people of color and neighborhoods. Through the Lab, the team works to leverage research and action to dismantle structural racism and catalyze healthier, safer, and greener neighborhoods.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Eugenia C. South, MD, MS

Dr. South is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Vice Chair of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Antiracism at the University of Pennsylvania.
