Clinical
- Clinical shifts at Valley Medical Center.

1-2 days per month with South King County Medic One.

2-4 days per month as a crew member for Airlift Northwest (ALNW), progressing from active 3rd provider role to full flight physician.

Participate weekly with the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) direct patient care teams.
Research
-
Fellows are expected to complete at least one scholarly project during the fellowship. This project should be worthy of publication and/or presentation.

Access to biostatistical, epidemiological, and research methods training provided by the UW's Institute of Translational Health Sciences.

Access to the Cobb Cardiac Arrest Registry, which includes meticulously collected information on every cardiac arrest treated by the Seattle Fire Department since March 1970.

Access to the King County Center for the Evaluation of EMS (CEEMS) cardiac arrest registry, which covers the remainder of King County and has been maintained since April 1976.
-
Access to the Seattle and King County EMS airway management registries.
Education

Attend EMS Grand Rounds Conference Series.

Involvement with ALNW flight crew training and continuing education.

Attend NAEMSP Medical Directors Course as well as NAEMSP Conference.

Teach in the Michael K. Copass University of Washington Paramedic Training Program.

Provider regular Medic One QI reviews for the UW Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
EMS Experiential Learning
-
Immersion into Seattle Fire Department medical operations, including daily ALS run review with the medical director.
-
Weekly QI meeting with Seattle Fire Department.
-
Weekly EMS research meetings at Seattle Fire and at King County EMS.
-
Attend occasional meetings at Stryker / Physio-Control in suburban Redmond, Washington.
-
Accompany faculty to state Department of Health meetings and to Regional Trauma Council meetings.
-
Participate in the planning and execution of Seattle mass gathering medicine events.
-
Carry a radio and participate as a medical control physician for Seattle Medic One. Fellows will also monitor radio communications between the Medic One paramedics and the R2s in the HMC ED, intervening if necessary.

Perform dispatch center quality improvement and observation.
-
Occupy dedicated office space within the Seattle Fire Department Paramedic Program at Harborview Medical Center and at King County EMS in downtown Seattle.

Visit a more rural EMS agency, usually in Bellingham, WA, for several days of observation and teaching, at the option of the fellow.
