Dr. Wheat named AAMC’s first Climate Champion of 2025
Dr. Stefan Wheat has been named the first "Climate Champion" of 2025 by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to planetary health and environmental sustainability.
Wheat, an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Planetary Health Theme Director at the University of Washington, has made significant strides in integrating climate change education into healthcare. As Co-Chair for the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education's Curriculum Advancement Committee, he has worked globally to promote the inclusion of climate change and health curriculum at all educational levels. His work with the University of Washington’s Planetary Health Working Group has been instrumental in ensuring medical students are equipped to address the health impacts of climate change.
Additionally, Wheat is the founder of ClimateRx, a platform hosted by ecoAmerica, which empowers clinicians to engage patients in meaningful discussions about the health impacts of climate change. This innovative tool is helping bridge the gap between healthcare professionals and their communities, providing essential resources to enhance climate resilience.
Wheat’s efforts continue to inspire those in the medical community, proving that sustainability and health go hand in hand.
