We are proud to share that Dr. Herbie Duber, Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been appointed Interim Health Officer for the Kitsap Public Health District.
Duber brings a unique blend of clinical excellence and public health leadership to this new role. At UW, he leads our Section of Population Health and holds adjunct appointments in the Departments of Global Health, Health Metrics Sciences, and at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). Clinically, he cares for patients at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.

From 2022 to 2025, Duber served as the Regional Medical Officer for Northwest Washington with the Washington State Department of Health, where he played a key role in strengthening partnerships between state and local public health systems. His work has focused on evaluating health systems, supporting vulnerable communities, and mentoring the next generation of public health and emergency medicine leaders.
